Volunteer opportunities
Mentor
Connect 1:1 with a student or alumni to provide advice and guidance, and create an on-going relationship of learning, dialogue and growth.
Time Commitment: can vary from being a one-time 1-2 hour meeting to 4 or more hours over the course of 8 months
Judge or Coach for Case Competitions or Presentation Pitches
Sit on a judging panel to assess and provide feedback to student teams competing in case competitions and/or entrepreneurship pitch competitions.
Each year, UBC Sauder sends teams of students across Canada and around the world to compete in case competitions. Alumni coaches play an integral in their success by attending case practices throughout the year to provide feedback, resources and knowledge.
Time Commitment for judges: 1 to 2 hours
Time Commitment for coaches: up to 8 hours per month over the course of 4 months
Class Participant
Alumni can impact the academic development of students in a multitude of ways: co-writing a company or industry case study, giving a guest lecture, or offering your company to be used as a “live client” for student projects.
Event Speaker
Share your stories and words of advice to student or alumni audiences by giving a keynote presentation, workshop or participating on a panel. Speaking opportunities exist through student-run conference and club events, orientation programs, the Business Career Centre and UBC Sauder’s Alumni Engagement Office.
Time Commitment: 2 to 3 hours
Networking Delegate
Networking events are a great way to meet students and share industry knowledge and insights from your career journey. These opportunities also aid in the professional development of students and offer space for students to have career exploration conversations with alumni.
Time Commitment: 2 to 3 hours
Recruitment support
Do you have employment opportunities at your company? We invite alumni to post job opportunities, offer company info sessions or work directly with the Hari B. Varshney Business Career Centre to hire UBC Sauder students.
Time Commitment: 2 – 3 hours
Career support
Connect 1:1 with students or alumni for an information interview as they would like to speak with you to learn more about a specific industry, company, city or career that you have experience in. Help students prepare to enter the workplace through doing mock interviews or salary negotiation workshops or hosting company tours.
Time Commitment: Can vary from 1 to 3 hours.
Class Reunion Volunteer
Bring together your classmates to re-connect and reminisce by helping to organize a Class Reunion, with the help and support of UBC Sauder’s Alumni Engagement Office. For more info, email alumni@sauder.ubc.ca
Time Commitment: 25 – 30 hours over the course of 8 months
Alumni Regional Ambassador
Ambassadors serve as a resource for UBC Sauder in your region including alumni, exchange and co-op students who may be new to the area. This role actively connects with the alumni community in your region to encourage participating in local UBC Sauder programming. Ambassadors also host and attend UBC Sauder events in the region.
Time Commitment: up to 16 hours per year for a term of 2 years
