Academic achievement
Four-year Bachelor’s degree with a C+ average or higher in the last two years of study, or recognized equivalent from an accredited institution.
Applicants completing their final term of studies (with no more than five courses remaining) of their Bachelor’s degree at a Canadian or US university are welcome to apply and may be granted conditional admission.
As degrees differ widely between countries, completion of a one- or two-year Master’s degree may be required in addition to a Bachelor’s degree. For more information, please refer to UBC Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies’ Master’s program requirements for the minimum years of study and credential required for the country where the post-secondary studies were completed.
English language proficiency (ELP)
One of the following is required:
An undergraduate or graduate degree from a recognized university in which English was the official language of instruction. Official verification from the university to confirm the language of instruction may be required.
OR
An English language proficiency exam, either TOEFL iBT or IELTS Academic
- TOEFL iBT: minimum overall score of 90, reading and listening with 22 each, and writing and speaking with 21 each. (Use University Institution Code 0517)

For a competitive edge: Overall score of 100 or higher.

- IELTS Academic: overall score of 6.5 with no part less than 6.0.
- For a competitive edge: Overall score of 7.0 or higher, with a reading score of at least 6.5.
Only tests written within 24 months of the application submission date are accepted.
Course exemptions
Students interested in pursuing the UBC DAP credential are required to complete all 15 core courses in the program. However, in circumstances where an individual has completed a course of equivalent content and rigour to one of the seven foundation courses, exemptions may be granted.
Courses completed outside of Canada and the USA are not eligible for exemption.
Understanding the fees
Application fee
A non-refundable application fee of $115 will be required at time of application.
Tuition fees
Tuition fees are assessed on a per-course basis and paid at the time of registration. Currently, tuition fees are $780 per course for both domestic and international students (subject to change annually). Textbook and course material costs are approximately $175 per course and are not included in the tuition fee.
UBC Board of Governors and student society fees
UBC DAP students are required to pay fees established and authorized by the UBC Board of Governors and by student societies, which are reviewed annually and are subject to change. These fees include the U-Pass & AMS extended health insurance.
Annual fee assessments will vary by student, depending on factors such as course load and selection, but as an estimate, the fee assessment for a student enrolled in 18 or more credits (6 courses) during the 2021 academic year (September 2021 to August 2022) will be approximately $1215.
