Research Support

External grants

The Sauder School of Business receives a significant amount of research funding from Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC) and Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC), mostly through the following funding opportunities. The success rates for Sauder applications in 2018 competitions were in the range of 60 - 78%.

NOTE: Normally, a researcher may not apply, as an applicant, for an Insight Grant (IG) and Insight Development Grant (IDG) within the same calendar year.  However, since the launch of the smaller Insight Grants Stream A in 2017, SSHRC has approved an exception to this regulation to allow researchers who applied unsuccessfully for an Insight Development Grant in February 2019 the option to apply for an Insight Grant in October 2019. For the foreseeable future SSHRC will extend this exception to the multiple applications regulations.

For Sauder researchers, please adhere to the UBC/Sauder Internal deadlines  Agency Application Requirements and Procedures.

These grants recognize the creativity and innovation that are at the heart of all research advances. Discovery Grants are considered “grants in aid” of research, as they provide long term operating funds and can facilitate access to funding from other programs, but are not meant to support the full costs of a research program.
