Summer conferences
The Centre has assumed responsibility for this annual summer conference, held at UBC since 1993 (and before that at Carleton University from 1987). Each year the conference brings six or seven outstanding scholars to UBC to discuss their current research in a workshop environment.
For the past several years the conference has received organizational and financial support from the Institute for Policy Analysis at the University of Toronto and the Competition Bureau of the Government of Canada. The Institute for Policy Analysis hosted the 1999 conference at the University of Toronto.
Run as a series of seminars, the conference typically involves the presentation of six papers over day and a half. There is also a conference luncheon and dinner. The conference is open to anyone wishing to attend and there is no official registration procedure or fee for the workshops. However, those planning to attend are asked to inform the organizers to help them plan seating and catering. Anyone wishing to be included in the conference luncheon and/or dinner must inform the organizers at least two weeks before the conference and there will be a charge to cover the meal expenses.
This annual conference is operated by the Phelps Centre for the Study of Government and Business in the Sauder School of Business at UBC. The organizers gratefully acknowledge the financial assistance for the conference provided by the Rotman Institute for International Business at the University of Toronto. For more information, contact the Conference Director, Tom Ross, at tom.ross@sauder.ubc.ca or the Conference Secretary, Helen Ho at helen.ho@sauder.ubc.ca.
