The Centre for Urban Economics and Real Estate supports research and education in real estate and urban economics at UBC. Research covers theoretical issues and applied problems and is shared through academic seminars and publications.

We also actively work to integrate the academic work of UBC students with the professional community through internships and targeted research papers, as well as sponsoring events to present the academic community's knowledge to the professional community. Our current activities include the Grosvenor Summer Undergraduate Internship in Real Estate, student competitions in real estate, a summer international research symposium, and an annual professional forum event sponsored by Grosvenor.

About us

The Centre for Urban Economics and Real Estate was established in 1988 at the Sauder School of Business with the support of the Real Estate Foundation of British Columbia. It aims to advance the research and teaching of urban economics and real estate within the province.

Aiming to foster the integration between teaching, research and the professional real estate community in BC and Canada, centre activities include support for the research of its affiliated faculty, the Sauder School of Business academic programs, and students in real estate and urban economics.

Each year, our students compete in the NAIOP and Cornell case competitions. We also match some of our students with local industry employers through the Grosvenor Internship program. We host an annual forum for the Vancouver real estate and policy community, and participate as hosts or guests in the Canadian Real Estate and Urban Economics conference.

We wish to express our gratitude to our sponsors. Through their support and generosity, the sponsors provide the foundation for the Centre to achieve our goals and objectives.

A lot of business leaders are really good people and each and everyday they are faced with very complex issues. It is my belief that the centre will provide the tools that these leaders need to make ethical decisions. That's my belief and where I want to make a meaningful impact.
