The Sauder School of Business is recognized as one of Canada’s leading business schools and has offered the Marketing and Sales Management Diploma since the early 1950s. In addition to diploma studies, Sauder also offers Baccalaureate, Masters and Doctoral degrees in business as well as executive programs and workshops in all aspects of business.
The Diploma Program is designed and taught by Sauder’s marketing faculty. The instructors are leading educators in marketing and sales management. These are the same instructors that teach in Sauder’s MBA and executive programs, having won numerous awards for their teaching and research. They are chosen for their ability to interpret and convey the application of the latest management concepts to practicing managers. Each instructor has extensive industry experience and is passionate about teaching. Courses are taught using the case-method approach in which students are exposed to real-world case studies and best practices. The learning is hands-on, applied, and industry-relevant.

Lisa Cavanaugh, BA, PhD
Lisa teaches courses in consumer behavior, integrated marketing communications and strategy. She is an expert on how emotions, identity, and social relationships influence consumption. Lisa’s research appears in leading business journals and popular media outlets across North America, Europe, and Asia. Her professional experience includes directing strategic marketing and new business development for organizations in the United States as well as consulting for retail, lifestyle, and sports and entertainment brands. She has received several awards, including being named by Poets & Quants as one of “The World’s Best 40 Under 40 Business School Professors.” Prior to joining UBC Sauder, Lisa was on faculty at the USC Marshall School of Business in Los Angeles, CA.
Darren Dahl, BCom, PhD

Darren is the BC Innovation Council Professor of Sales and Sales Management at the Sauder School of Business and the Senior Associate Dean - Faculty and Research. He teaches courses in creativity, entrepreneurship, marketing research and strategic marketing analysis. His research on new product development and consumer behaviour has been presented at conferences internationally, and is published in important business journals. He has also consulted widely for organizations such as Procter & Gamble, General Electric, Lululemon Athletica, Xerox, Teekay Shipping and the Life Insurance Corporation of India.
JoAndrea Hoegg, BA, BEd, PhD

Joey teaches courses in consumer behavior and marketing research. Her research interests include how consumers are influenced by product and advertising design considerations and how brands can develop relationships with their customers. Joey’s research has been published in the Journal of Consumer Research, the Journal of Marketing Research, and the Journal of Consumer Psychology. Prior to completing her PhD in marketing, Joey worked in marketing research and communications in San Diego, where she consulted for a variety of firms including non-profit organizations and internet start-ups.
Darren Mahaffy, BBA
Darren has over 20 years of experience leading consumer communication programs in highly competitive packaged goods categories for organizations such as Silver Hills, Nature’s Path Foods, Weston Bakeries Gillette, Tropicana, Campbell’s, and Procter & Gamble. Darren currently leads the global marketing efforts at Silver Hills, a leading Canadian bakery business focused on sprouted grains, gluten-free and organic products across the bread, rolls, bagels, cereal and granola categories. Darren has extensive experience coordinating relationships between marketing and sales to improve how the two functions work together to drive growth and profitability. He has managed many leading national brands and much of his experience is in markets where retailers and channel members have a great deal of leverage and channel power over the marketplace.
Tim Silk, BBA, PhD
Tim teaches brand management, new product development in Sauder’s MBA and BCom programs. His research focuses on consumer behaviour in pricing and promotion contexts such as rebate promotions, gift card spending and loyalty reward programs. An award winning teacher, he has taught and consulted for organizations such as Bell, Best Buy, Brand Finance and Visa. He is considered a leading expert on rebate promotions and has helped shape consumer-friendly policies for the Competition Bureau of Canada, Federal Trade Commission, the U.S. Department of Energy and the U.S. Government Accountability Office. Formerly he was a marketing manager in the beverage industry and an account manager in the advertising industry.
Ann Stone, BA, MBA
Ann specializes in Marketing Strategy, Branding, and Integrated Communications. Prior to joining Sauder Ann held several senior corporate marketing positions, serving as Chief Marketing Officer for Papa Murphy’s Pizza, CMO for Church’s Chicken, VP of Marketing and Operations for Dairy Queen/Orange Julius, and VP of Channel Marketing for Coca-Cola. Ann has also served as a member of the Board of Directors for Definition 6, a successful marketing services company based in Atlanta, GA. A dynamic and thoughtful communicator, Ann has participated in many restaurant, marketing, and general business events as a keynote and workshop speaker.
Victor Tang, BSc, MBA
Victor has 10+ years of marketing and public relations experience holding senior management roles for companies ranging from local startups to global corporations of 10,000+ employees. He currently is the Head of Marketing at Fresh Prep, a rapidly growing local Vancouver tech startup in the meal kit industry. Previously, Victor has run the digital marketing team for a FTSE 100; spent time in Hong Kong consulting in marketing for the luxury apparel, accessory and furniture industries; and held a myriad of senior marketing roles with various non-profit and private sector companies. Victor has run international award winning marketing and communication campaigns for various organizations, and many of his campaigns have been featured on both print and televised media including coverage on the Vancouver Sun, Global News, CTV, Fairchild, and other media outlets.
Elaine has over 25 years of industry experience in marketing, sales and management across diverse industries in organizations such as IBM and Royal Bank Wealth Management. Elaine has served on the Board of Directors for 20 years for local not-for-profit organizations including BC Women's Hospital, The Vancouver Writers Festival and Dress for Success. In 2010, Elaine was awarded the UBC Killam Teaching Prize for teaching excellence.
