Why has Vancouver been so slow to join the sharing economy?
Vancouver Playhouse Theatre 600 Hamilton Theatre, Vancouver BC V6B 2P1 Canada
Uber and AirBnB have disrupted traditional business models around the world and sparked explosive growth in the sharing economy.
Consumers have embraced these services for their convenience and cost savings, but governments have responded differently from city to city. For example, while Canadian cities like Toronto and Montreal have created new legislation for Uber to operate, Vancouverites have seen nothing but delayed decisions and increased regulations that make it difficult for the service to exist.
To hear about the pros, cons, and unanswered questions about the state of Vancouver's sharing economy, join a panel of UBC and community experts featuring UBC Sauder Associate Professor Marc-David Seidel, director of the W. Maurice Young Centre for Entrepreneurship & Venture Capital Research.
Note: Alumni of UBC Sauder's class of 2015 and 2016 get free entry. Up to 25 current students will also receive free entry - details below.
