Danielle van Jaarsveld, E.D. MacPhee professor of management and Division Chair, Organizational Behaviour & Human Resources Division at the UBC Sauder School of Business has been appointed chair of the Fair Wages Commission by the B.C. Ministry of Labour.
On October 1, the B.C. Ministry of Labour announced that Danielle van Jaarsveld, E.D. MacPhee professor of management and Division Chair, Organizational Behaviour & Human Resources Division at the UBC Sauder School of Business was appointed chair of the B.C. Fair Wages Commission.
Van Jaarsveld’s research explores the changing nature of work and its implications for unions, organizations, managers and the workforce. She has written extensively on human resource practices and their influence on firm performance. Her current research examines employee responses to mistreatment from customers in customer service interactions. Since joining the UBC Sauder School of Business in 2004, she has taught in the undergraduate, graduate and executive programs.
The Fair Wages Commission is an independent commission, established in October 2017 and comprised of three members. It aims to bring forward recommendations to the B.C. government to reach a $15 minimum wage on wages for workers who earn an alternative minimum wage and to close the gap between the minimum wage and living wages.
