UBC Sauder has launched the Parent & Family Network, an initiative that empowers parents and guardians to better support their students’ university experience.

The network, the only one of its kind at UBC, brings together a community of parents by providing centralized resources, regular updates, exclusive event invitations and opportunities to engage with fellow parents and families. The first of those opportunities was held on August 21, when Dean Robert Helsley and the Chair of the Parent & Family Council, Colin Yip, welcomed 300 new parents and guardians to the school.

“We have the unique opportunity to create something special that will benefit UBC Sauder students and parents,” said Yip. “I encourage parents and guardians to join to help us make your sons’ and daughters’ next four years at UBC Sauder the best years of their lives.”

At the kick-off event, Yip – also a proud UBC Sauder alum – spoke of how it felt to send his daughter off to university and what it means for him to be a part of this new parent and family community. Attendees also had the chance to meet and ask questions of staff from the Hari B. Varshney Business Career Centre, Canaccord Learning Commons, Co-op Program and the Undergraduate Office.

“Our Parent & Family Network is all about you,” said Dean Helsley. “As the parent, grandparent or guardian of a UBC Sauder student, you too are a vital part of the school’s vibrant and diverse community of support…and we are excited to work together with parents to help our students reach their fullest potential, not only to succeed in business but also to make a positive impact on our society.”

For more information on how to join the UBC Sauder Parent & Family Network, please visit the website. Upon joining, parents will receive a complimentary UBC Sauder Parent & Family Guidebook.

The Parent & Family Council, of which Yip is the Chair, is comprised of parents that have come together as ambassadors for the Parent & Family Network.
