On April 25th, Sauder's Hari B. Varshney Business Career Centre will host Business Now! with Joel Bakan, internationally renowned author of The Corporation, and UBC law professor. Joel will examine whether or not corporate social responsibility (CSR) can truly civilize business. His conclusions may surprise you!

About Joel Bakan

Award winning scholar, author and filmmaker, Joel Bakan is currently a professor of law at UBC. His critically acclaimed book, The Corporation: The Pathological Pursuit of Profit and Power (2004), became an international bestseller. The book inspired a feature documentary film, The Corporation, which won numerous awards and was a box office success. Bakan’s latest book is Childhood Under Siege: How Big Business Targets Children (2011).

Bakan has law degrees from Oxford, Dalhousie and Harvard, and is a frequent recipient of awards for both his writing and teaching. Bakan has worked on landmark legal cases and government policy, and served regularly as a media commentator, appearing on national television and radio.
