Donation to UBC Robson Square benefits the Sauder School of Business


Vancouver - Dr. Peter J.G. Bentley has donated $1 million to UBC to ensure that UBC's business educational programs and leading edge research are available to a growing number of professionals, UBC Alumni, downtown residents, and other community learners for decades to come.

In recognition of the gift that will go towards the completion of funding for UBC Robson Square, four classrooms which house the Sauder School of Business Executive Education program will be named the Bentley Centre for Business Education.

"This generous gift will provide professionals, lifelong learners, and other community members with a vital learning environment and a gateway to UBC's vast resources," said UBC President Martha Piper. "Over the years, Dr. Bentley has given generously of his time and resources, helping to distinguish UBC as a great university. We are very pleased to count him among one of our closest friends and supporters."

Dr. Bentley is Chairman of Canfor Corporation a company his family began after arriving in New Westminster from Austria in 1938. He attended UBC and was a member of the Varsity Golf Team and played hockey. He is also a longstanding member of the Sauder School of Business Faculty Advisory Board. He was made an officer of the Order of Canada in 1983 and received an Honorary Doctorate of Laws from UBC in 1992. In 2004, he was elected Chancellor of the University of Northern British Columbia.
