The Centre for Transportation Studies at Sauder hosts international conference on gateways and corridors in Vancouver
VANCOUVER, BC – The Center for Transportation Studies (CTS) at the University of British Columbia’s Sauder School of Business is hosting an international conference exploring the economic and theoretical foundations of Canada’s Asia-Pacific Gateway and Corridor concept and providing a basis for future policy work. Over 30 renowned speakers from Canada, the United States, Hong Kong, Singapore, China, New Zealand, Australia, The Netherlands, Germany and the UK will present their studies.
Canada’s Asia-Pacific Gateway and Corridor Research Consortium is a program focusing on the organization of an International Conference and supporting roundtables exploring the economic and theoretical foundations of Canada’s Asia-Pacific Gateway and Corridor concept. The objectives of the consortium are to focus national and international academic attention on the concept of international transportation gateways and corridors, to bring national and international experience to bear on the Asia-Pacific Gateway and Corridor concept and to review the implications for transportation and infrastructure policies to realize gateway and corridor related development opportunities.
Papers commissioned and presented at the Roundtables and International Conference will explore the economic foundations of the Gateway and Corridor concept. The work is intended as the basis for future dialogues on the role of gateway and corridors in the field of transportation and regional economics. The Conference and Roundtables are designed to generate major, high quality, policy relevant discussions and academic study drawing on conclusions from the activities and dialogue and providing a basis for future policy direction.
The Conference is being held with financial assistance from Transport Canada under the Government of Canada’s Asia-Pacific Gateway and Corridor Initiative.
The Vancouver conference will be organized around six themes that have particular application to measurement of the impact of gateway and corridors and corridors. The Conference will take place May 2, 3 and 4, 2007 and will cover 2.5 days and include up to 26 presenters and speakers. The six themes are:
