Eighteen Sauder BCom students will travel to Shanghai and Hong Kong for the China 2013 Trek, from May 6 to 10.
Sauder’s Trek program, organized by the Hari B. Varshney Business Career Centre aims to build long-term relationships with leading employers in Asia. This year's group will spend five days meeting with local employers within the banking, finance, real estate, telecom, manufacturing, insurance and wine sectors.
“The trek helps us to bring students to a new market,” says Linda Gully, Director of Undergraduate Career Services at Sauder’s Hari B. Varshney Business Career Centre.
The companies make for an impressive list, which includes Colliers, HSBC, KPMG Consulting, Bloomberg, McKinsey, Barclays, Manulife-Sinochem Life Insurance, Alcatel-Lucent, Capgemini, SmithStreetSolutions, Sichuan Jincheng Yihe Industrial Co. Ltd. and Abercrombie & Fitch.
The BComs will also have the opportunity to network with local alumni at two Trek China mixers, one in each city.
“I want students to come away with a deeper understanding of how business is done in Asia,” Gully says. “For those considering moving to Asia for work, they’ll be able to make more informed decisions.”
