Juggling work, school, and her hobbies, Rajdeep still finds time to take advantage of DAP’s career resources such as one-on-one career coaching with Russell Garrett to help update her cover letter and resume, and to prepare for interviews and job offers. She encourages all future DAP students to make the most of their time at Sauder while trying to maintain a healthy work/life balance. Rajdeep is proof it’s possible to do it all.

Professors have made themselves available to answer Robyn’s questions through UBC DAP’s online platform or email, and the use of online break-out sessions during live-lectures has allowed students like Robyn to actively participate and make meaningful connections online.

Jenny jointed TELUS through the Pre-Approved CPA Program, which allowed her to take on the Financial Analyst role working with three different teams within a 3-year period while enrolled in the CPA Professional Education Program (PEP). In her current role, Jenny works on mergers and acquisitions, and assists with due diligence and valuation work. She credits her involvement with the UBC DAP Student Club to helping her grow connections within the accounting industry, and giving her the opportunity to enhance and develop her soft skills.

Alym Amlani
CPA, CA, MPAcc
Alym Amlani, CPA, CA, MPAcc, is a full-time business and accounting instructor who teaches cost and financial accounting, financial modeling, and information systems at the University of British Columbia (UBC) Sauder School of Business in Vancouver, BC. He also teaches cognitive systems, a multidisciplinary program integrating psychology, computer science, linguistics, and philosophy. Additionally, Alym works as a session leader for the CPA Western School of Business. Alym has co-authored several articles on the Science of Magic and continues to pursue research on education and assessment.

Mary Chong
BCom, CPA, CA
After a successful 17-year career in audit and taxation at PricewaterhouseCoopers, Mary Chong chose to leverage the mentorship skills she developed on the job and become a full-time accounting instructor. Having joined UBC DAP in 2008, she thrives on the fact that the program is constantly evolving in response to technological change and the demands of the business environment. Mary is passionate about teaching and seeing her students learn and grow, so it’s not a surprise that she has been a recipient of the UBC DAP Teaching Award on multiple occasions. Students respond to her energy and her belief that each student brings a different perspective to the classroom and is uniquely capable of making a valuable contribution to society.

Martha Essak
Martha Essak has been an instructor at the Sauder School of Business at UBC since 2015. She began teaching in the MM-OR program and now teaches in the MBAN program, the Diploma in Accounting Program, and the Bachelor of Commerce program. Her background is in biology, statistics, science and math education, and filmmaking. She has studied documentary filmmaking and has even worked on natural history films and shows for National Geographic.

Megan Hamilton

Megan Hamilton has been an instructor at the Sauder School of Business in the DAP program since 2018. Prior to teaching at UBC, Megan worked for 10 years as the Director of Operations at a Vancouver law firm. Megan teaches financial and managerial accounting courses as well as Strategic Management in Business. She enjoys being in the classroom, meeting students and seeing students learn, grow and succeed throughout the Program.

Devin Kanhai
BCom, J.D.
Devin Kanhai is the Executive Director, Licensing Education at the Sauder School of Business Real Estate Division at the University of British Columbia. Devin oversees the pre-licensing and mandatory continuing education programs that the Real Estate Division offers for real estate professionals in British Columbia and Saskatchewan. Prior to joining the Real Estate Division, Devin practiced corporate law at a large national law firm. In addition to his duties at the Real Estate Division, Devin is a regular contributing author for the BC Financial Services Authority’s annual Legal Update courses. Furthermore, Devin teaches a commercial law course for the Sauder School of Business Diploma in Accounting Program.

Peter Norwood
BCom, MBA, FCA, FCMA, CPA
If anyone knows what it takes be successful in the accounting profession it’s UBC DAP instructor Peter Norwood. Both a Chartered Accountant and Certified Management Accountant Fellow prior to becoming a Chartered Professional Accountant, Peter’s career path began in public practice and grew into a lifelong commitment to accounting education. Among his many contributions to the profession, he served as member of the Board of the CA School of Business for 6 years and member of the Certification Steering Committee responsible for all education issues pertaining to the amalgamation of the profession. He is presently Chair of the Board of Examiners for CPA Canada. All that said, the fact that teaching is his first love would not come as a surprise to UBC DAP students who consistently rate him highly as an instructor.

Scott Sinclair

As a two-time winner of the Sauder School of Business Undergraduate Teaching award, Scott Sinclair is really in his element in the classroom. Drawing on industry experience and an impressive record of involvement with accounting professional organizations, Scott embraces teaching as the opportunity to make a significant difference in the lives of his students.
