Get Inkspired: Introduction to Calligraphy with Alum, Dina Lu

Discover the art of calligraphy and learn to create beautiful and thoughtful designs in this virtual class. In this introductory 90-minute workshop, UBC Sauder alum, Dina Lu of Dina Calligraphy, will demonstrate modern techniques and strokes to de-stress, unwind and develop your calligraphy style. Leave this session with a unique hand-lettered greeting card and a new mindfulness hobby. Worksheets will be made available for this class and registrants will have the option to order supplies depending on location. Join us for an exciting night of self-expression and self-care through this incredibly versatile craft. No prior experience in lettering necessary. Right-handed and left-handed beginners welcome!

When: Thursday, May 13, 2021, 6:00pm- 7:30pm PDT
Where: Zoom (Zoom meeting links will be sent to registrants via email a few days before the event)


Registration options are as follows:

  1. Calligraphy class with mailed materials* (including Tombow Fudenosuke pen and physical workbook) and PDF workbook: $20 (retail $75)
    *Note: This option is no longer available
  2. Calligraphy class with PDF workbook only: $10 (retail $50)

*mailing option only available to addresses in Canada

Limited number of spots available.  

Below is a list of recommended pens if you cannot get the mailed material set:

  • Tombow Fudenosuke Brush Pen Hard
  • Pentel Fude Touch Brush Pen
  • Any brush pen that is FIRM and HARD

Avoid: Tombow Dual Brush Pen (not ideal for beginners)

Meet our instructor

Dina Lu (BCom ’17) 

Dina Lu graduated from the UBC Sauder School of Business in 2017 with a Bachelor of Commerce specializing in Finance and International Business. After graduating from Sauder, she worked in an international trade office while she built a calligraphy side business. In the summer of 2019, she took the leap and quit her job to become a full-time creative entrepreneur. Currently, she runs her own calligraphy business called Dina Calligraphy. She is a Calligraphy Workshop Instructor and Business Coach for Calligraphers; She specializes in teaching public and corporate team-building calligraphy workshops in Vancouver, as well as coaching calligraphers around the world on how to turn their creative passions into profitable businesses. She regularly volunteers her time to mentoring young entrepreneurs through the Canadian charity League of Innovators, and high school girls through the YWCA.
