Event Details
The team from UBC Sauder’s Robert H. Lee Graduate School will introduce and provide background on UBC Sauder. Dean Dahl will then take the stage to speak about his vision, his emerging new strategic plan, and his focus on responsible leadership. He will also discuss the school’s history, passion, and strength in innovation, climate, and finance.
His talk will be followed by a question & answer session, as well as a networking reception.
In São Paulo, Lima, Bogotá, Mexico City, and Monterrey, Dean Dahl will be joined by Martina Valkovicova, Assistant Dean and Director at the UBC Hari B. Varshney Business Career Centre. She will share her career journey as an MBA alumna, insights on the Canadian job market, tips on what employers are looking for in top candidates, and the value of emotional intelligence in business.

About Dean Darren Dahl
Darren Dahl is the Dean of the UBC Sauder School of Business and the Innovate BC Professor. He’s globally recognized for his work in strategic marketing, entrepreneurship, creativity, and social influence. Dahl is an award-winning academic who is a past recipient of the Killam Research Prize and the 3M Teaching Fellowship. In 2015, he was ranked as the #1 professor worldwide for marketing research by the American Marketing Association.
Reflections on a journey.

Dahl received his Bachelor of Commerce in Accounting from the University of Alberta in 1992 and his PhD in Marketing from the University of British Columbia in 1998. He began his professional research and teaching career at the University of Manitoba, and joined the Faculty of Commerce and Business Administration at UBC as Associate Professor in 2002. Dahl earned a promotion to Professor in 2007. An internationally sought-after speaker, he has also held a number of visiting professorships at universities in the United States, Australia, the Netherlands, and Hong Kong.

Martina Valkovicova
Martina is the Assistant Dean and Director at UBC Sauder Hari B. Varshney Business Career Centre, where she leads a team of passionate individuals who help students discover their career aspirations and prepare for their professional journey. Born in Slovakia, in a village of about 500 people, her dream since young age was to travel across the world. Her dream has come true and so far, she has lived, studied and worked across three continents – Europe, Africa and North America with visiting almost 30 different countries. She loves learning and has master’s degree in economics as well as MBA (Master’s in Business Administration), speaks four languages fluently and currently learning Korean. Books and reading play a major part in her life and she aims to read 100 – 150 books every year. When not reading, you can find her on long walks, writing poetry, meditating or watching lots of sports. She is really excited to speak to you at the event.
