BAFI 503 Topics in Corporate Finance
BAFI 502, BAFI 511
The objective of this course is to provide you with an in-depth understanding of how value is
created or lost through capital investment decisions. We build this understanding in two steps.
First we study analytical techniques that provide a basis for evaluating investment decisions. We
follow this with a discussion of case studies where the strengths and limitations of the analytical
techniques are illustrated. The course is primarily focused on three approaches to the evaluation
of investment opportunities: adjusted present value (APV) approach; weighted average cost of
capital (WACC) approach and the real options approach involving the application of financial
option pricing techniques to real investment.
