BAFI 500 Introductory Finance

The objective of the course is to provide an introduction to the analysis of corporate decisions from a financial point of view, and to help students develop an understanding of basic economic issues and of the main tools required for any type of financial analysis. We will study how markets determine prices and how this is related to the notion of arbitrage opportunity; the concept of net present value as a way to compare the benefits and costs of an investment project; the time value of money and its use in valuation; different types of interest rates; investment decision rules; the process of capital budgeting; how to value stocks; how firms choose the financing of their operations; and how financing decisions may affect firm value.
