Learning and Technology Services held a workshop on March 31, 2009 with many Sauder and UBC-IT stakeholders, where it established the “Sauder Goal Architecture”.
The overriding theme that evolved from this workshop was to move forward by:
- Developing and implementing next generation applications using open-source tools, such as Linux and mySQL.
- When there exists a strong business case to use a Microsoft .NET environment (i.e. the Sitecore Content Management System implemented in late 2009), then that should also be part of the “Sauder Goal Architecture”.
- Wherever possible, Sauder should deploy systems managed by UBC-IT, to contain costs.
- Applications should be designed to be modular. In general, Sauder should adopt a “small pieces, loosely coupled” approach to the suite of software it maintains.
