Sauder Goal Architecture

Learning and Technology Services held a workshop on March 31, 2009 with many Sauder and UBC-IT stakeholders, where it established the “Sauder Goal Architecture”.

The overriding theme that evolved from this workshop was to move forward by:

  1. Developing and implementing next generation applications using open-source tools, such as Linux and mySQL.
  2. When there exists a strong business case to use a Microsoft .NET environment (i.e. the Sitecore Content Management System implemented in late 2009), then that should also be part of the “Sauder Goal Architecture”.
  3. Wherever possible, Sauder should deploy systems managed by UBC-IT, to contain costs.
  4. Applications should be designed to be modular. In general, Sauder should adopt a “small pieces, loosely coupled” approach to the suite of software it maintains.
