Reports to: Vice President, Field Operations

Position Overview
The Assessor is responsible for leading the assessment process within a region and is accountable for meeting assessment legislative requirements, while ensuring regional goals that support the corporate business plan are achieved. The position provides strategic advice to the Executive Committee, makes recommendations on corporate matters, and identifies issues requiring Executive Committee attention and recommends appropriate responses.

As a member of the Senior Leadership team, the Assessor participates in the development of the Corporate Business Plan, allocating resources for high priority initiatives and core work to ensure BCA achieves its objectives.

The Assessor oversees the implementation of the Corporate Service Plan, Annual Plan, and the Regional Business Plan with their region and leads, or participates in corporate or regional projects with province-wide or regional impacts. This position represents BC Assessment (BCA) to the public and ensures the delivery of customer-focused service in the region through stakeholder presentations, consultations, and the development and leadership of staff in one or more local area offices.

Knowledge

  • Thorough knowledge of appraisal theory/principles, statutes, and case law involved in assessment system;
  • Considerable systems knowledge and ability to oversee systems strategies and operations;
  • Demonstrated management (resource/administrative management, business acumen, supervision), organizational and project management knowledge and abilities.

Education and Experience Requirements:

Education

  • A university degree in a related discipline is required.
  • Must hold and maintain accreditation with the Appraisal Institute of Canada as an Accredited Appraiser Canadian Institute (AACI) or be designated with the Real Estate Institute of BC as an RI(BC) with the Diploma in Urban Land Economics with either the mass appraisal or assessment option.

Experience

  • Ten years of combined management and broad appraisal experience with various and complex property types.

 Note: An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.

Additional Information:

This is an Excluded Management position and offers an annual salary of $105,600 to $124,200
