BC Assessment - Sauder School of Business Education Partnership

The Sauder School of Business Real Estate Division in partnership with BC Assessment, has developed a new education stream for individuals working in the assessment industry. This program has been created in cooperation with BC Assessment and is designed to address the learning needs of BC Assessment employees throughout their careers. The program ladders into the Certificate Program in Real Property Assessment, the Diploma Program in Urban Land Economics, and BBRE.

BC Assessment Career Advancement Stream

Appraiser I: new Appraisers must complete within 12 months of starting at BC Assessment:

Foundations of Real Estate Appraisal

Appraiser II: eligibility for reclassification as an Appraiser II requires 24 months experience as an Appraiser I and the following 6 additional courses:

Senior Appraiser: eligibility to apply for these positions requires 4 years appraisal experience, 2 additional courses (below) plus a recognized valuation professional designation (REIBC or AACI):

Professional Designation Completion Options

Advancement to Senior Appraiser at BC Assessment requires either the AACI or RIBC professional designation.

Option 1:
Post-Graduate Certificate in Real Property Valuation (PGCV): aimed at business degree graduates; the courses in the BC Assessment Career Advancement Stream complete all courses for the PGCV, also meeting the AACI education requirements.

Certificate in Real Property Assessment

BC Assessment staff may also earn the Certificate Program in Real Property Assessment as they progress along the BC Assessment Career Advancement Stream. This 5-course Certificate requires completion of BUSI 121, 330, 344, 443, and one of BUSI 331 or 444. Completion of the Certificate also meets the educational requirements for the International Association of Assessing Officers (IAAO)’s CAE designation.
