Industry Projects

"The UBC MM in OR degree... has allowed me to jump-start my career. Combining the knowledge and experiences I gained in the program with the strong quantitative skills I had developed during my undergraduate degree, I found myself highly employable and was able to find full-time work even before graduation."

Aleksey Nozdryn-Plotnicki, Graduate 2007
Consultant, Capgemini Consulting

The Industry Project is the cornerstone of the MM in OR program. Each student is matched with a COE Industry Partner to consult on a significant operational challenge faced by the company. Students begin preparatory project work during the second academic term (January - April) and then work full-time on the projects from mid-April to early September.

COE projects enable students to apply the analytical and practical skills learned in their coursework. Working with a team of advisors and technical staff, each student defines the problem to be solved, collects relevant information, builds mathematical models, and delivers decision tools and executive-level recommendations to the Industry Partner. The project outcomes are valued so highly by the Industry Partners that often they hire the students to continue their work after graduation.
