Transportation and Parking
UBC TREK is responsible for all transportation planning at UBC and works to improve transportation choices for UBC commuters. It provides students with inexpensive, more environmentally benign and better ways to get to UBC, including carpools, vanpools, public transit, and bike/walking paths.
The U-Pass Program is an integrated comprehensive transportation package that provides students with universal, accessible, and affordable access to public transit and other sustainable transportation programs. It is a mandatory program for all members of the Alma Mater Society (AMS) and costs $22/month (which is contained within the student-levied fees, regardless whether or not students choose to use the bus system). If you require monthly parking on campus, visit Parking & Access Control Services for information on graduate student parking passes.
Health and Medical Insurance
Each person living in BC must enroll in the provincial government's Medical Services Plan (MSP), The plan covers the cost of basic medical care, including most physical and hospital services. It does not cover general dental care, eyeglasses or prescription medications.
The AMS/GSS Health Plan is extended health and dental coverage, designed specifically for students to cover expenses not covered by basic health-care plans such as prescription drugs, dental care, travel coverage, vision care and more.
UBC requires that all international students have basic and extended health insurance for the duration of their studies. If your family members are with you in Canada, they should also have insurance for the duration of their stay. Visit the section on health insurance for international students for information and application.
