Resources for Incoming Students

Admitted students imageWelcome to the Master of Management in Operations Research (MM in OR) program in the Sauder School of Business at the University of British Columbia! You will be joining an accomplished and diverse group of people in a stimulating and rewarding program.

The following information will assist you in registering for courses and preparing for student life at UBC.

Preparation

You should find the pace of the MM program to be challenging, intense and stimulating. In order to promote a positive learning experience when you begin your program, we recommend the following:

  • Reduce Extracurricular Commitments

The MM in OR program requires a full-time commitment. For this reason we recommend that you minimize extracurricular activities in order to concentrate on this intensive professional program.

  • Update Computer Skills

Computer work is an important component of all assignments at UBC. Once classes begin, you will not have time to hone your computer skills in addition to keeping up with your regular class preparation and assignments. Students should be competent in a Windows environment and be confident in their word processing, spread sheet and presentation skills prior to the start of the program.

  • Research on Academic Guidelines

Academic honesty is essential to the continued functioning of UBC as an institution of higher learning and research. All UBC students are expected to behave as honest and responsible members of an academic community. Breach of those expectations or failure to follow the appropriate policies, principles, rules, and guidelines of the University with respect to academic honesty may result in disciplinary action. Visit the UBC Calendar on academic honesty and standards, grading practices, and academic assessment to gain an understanding of student responsibilities at UBC.
