Scholarships/Awards and Financial Assistance

Entrance Scholarships

A separate application is not required for scholarships as an application to the program serves as application for entrance awards. All students who are admitted to the program are eligible for scholarship consideration regardless of whether their application includes GRE or GMAT results. Candidates must submit their online applications by the May 15th deadline in order to be considered, though their files may be completed at a later date with the submission of official documents. We expect the top 15-20% of the class to receive entrance awards ranging from $5000 to $15000 for 2012. Note that scholarships, like admissions decisions, are awarded on a rolling basis, so candidates completing their applications earlier will be considered first.

The following external organizations offer or administer a variety of scholarships for both domestic and international students. Please visit their websites to determine eligibility requirements and application procedures. Please note that these scholarships are not administered by the UBC MM-ECM Programs Office, The Sauder School of Business or UBC.

Government Student Loans

Government Student Loans are an excellent source of funding for Canadian and Landed Immigrant MM-ECM students. Students do not make principal or interest payments until 6 months after MM-ECM studies are completed. Additionally, student loans are granted without proof of strong credit ratings, secure employment and assets. Students do not have to prove themselves in these areas, as is normally required for bank loans. To best understand government student loans and ensure applying through the correct program, it is important to work with the UBC Student Financial Assistance Office. It is important to note that government student loans were designed primarily for undergraduate studies. Therefore, the maximum amount of funds provided by a government student loan will not be enough to cover MM-ECM tuition. Government student loans should only constitute part of an MM-ECM student's financing plan.

Part-Time Work Opportunities

UBC MM-ECM students are not encouraged to work part-time during the program owing to the large time commitment required for classes, group work and individual study.
