Admission Requirements

Outlined below are the minimum entrance requirements for admission to the UBC MM-ECM program, as well as the competitive requirements.  Because of the competitive nature of admissions to the UBC MM-ECM program, meeting the minimum entrance requirements does not guarantee admission. To have the best chance at admission, we strongly encourage applicants to exceed our minimum requirements, aiming for the competitive recommendations.

Candidates are recruited from diverse academic backgrounds. A four-year Bachelor's degree or recognized equivalent from an accredited institution is required. The Early Career Masters Program is not appropriate for candidates with a major or minor in  Business Administration, Commerce or Management. Candidates must have a solid academic record and a competitive GMAT or GRE score.

For applicants with degrees from Canada and the USA, we require the following: A four-year Bachelor's degree with an overall B+ standing in senior level (usually 300 and 400-level) courses. From Quebec, a three-year Bachelor's degree is acceptable provided the Diplome d'Etudes Collegiales has been previously awarded.

Grading systems differ widely between countries. We recommend that applicants have academic backgrounds within the general requirements listed on UBC's Faculty of Graduate Studies' website to ensure a reasonable chance of gaining admission to the UBC MM-ECM program. From this Faculty of Graduate Studies' page, scroll to the bottom of the page and enter the country in which you have completed your degree to determine the admission requirements to the ECM program.

Important Note: While the MM-ECM office follows general Faculty of Graduate Studies' admissions requirements, all application queries and admissions processes for the MM-ECM program are handled solely by the ECM Programs Office, not the Faculty of Graduate Studies.

Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) or Graduate Record Examinations (GRE)

The GMAT or GRE is mandatory for all applicants and files will not be evaluated before the official GMAT or GRE score has been received. We will not accept photocopies or faxed score reports. GMAT scores are valid if written within the last five years. You must arrange to have the official results sent directly from the testing service organization to the ECM Programs Office at UBC. It is in your best interest to write the GMAT or GRE exam no later than 4-6 weeks prior to the MM-ECM application deadline in case you need to re-write the exam. However, we do accept test scores up until and after the application deadline (it usually takes our office approximately 1 week to receive a GMAT score from GMAC and 1 month for a GRE score from ETS).   Applicants are required to complete all sections of the GMAT or GRE.

When requesting official score reports to be sent to our office, please quote the below codes with your request.
