Mahesh came to UBC Sauder to learn from professors active in the world’s most developed capital markets. He returned to India with more advanced career prospects — and purpose.
Developing solutions comes naturally to Mahesh Shrinivas Bhattad.
In 2009, he was a software engineer in India’s thriving IT industry, creating custom applications to forward the businesses of his clients in the medical and financial services sectors. But his fondness for financial markets beckoned him to explore possible futures in the field.
A quick study in change management
If he was going to make a change, Mahesh knew one thing for certain: he wanted an education that was deeply integrated into North America’s highly advanced capital markets. After some research, he quickly focussed on UBC’s MBA program, and specifically its Finance track, as a good fit both for his ambitions and his interests.
“I spoke to a few Sauder alumni,” he notes. “They told me about Sauder’s highly respected faculty in the finance division.”
To Mahesh, Vancouver also seemed like the perfect blend of business and pleasure. “With so many places to hang around in Vancouver,” he says, “the chance to study there was icing on the cake.”
Learn it, then live it
“My experience at Sauder was fulfilling from the perspective of academic knowledge as well as personal effectiveness,” he notes. “Most of the professors at Sauder had deep academic knowledge of the courses they were teaching, while they were also well-connected to the industry.”
What he learned at Sauder has proven critical to his post-MBA success.
“The high level of professionalism and integrity woven into the entire program helped me excel at communication and strategic analysis,” he states. “The program empowered me to excel in my tasks at work, and gave me the confidence to take on more responsibilities.”
His confidence only grew when he earned a scholarship for outstanding performance in the field of finance.
Today, Mahesh serves as a senior consultant in the Strategic Analysis Group within the Market Intelligence team at Capgemini, a global leader in consulting, technology, outsourcing, and local professional services.
Located in Hyderabad, India, Mahesh identifies trends in the financial services sector (banking, insurance, payments, capital markets and the like) and analyzes how Capgemini can help its clients adapt to these trends. “My team produces widely read reports such as the World Wealth Report, in addition to providing high-level strategic analysis reports for senior management,” he states.
Utilizing the skills gained from his UBC MBA, Mahesh quickly gained the trust of his senior leadership team. “It helped me win opportunities to lead teams and work on critical deliverables,” he says.
For Mahesh, it was a just one more positive development in what will no doubt be a long and prosperous career.
