As a history major, the switch to business and accounting was daunting. DAP made it a lot easier: a clear curriculum, competent instructors, and a flexible timeline. It fit my goals and schedule perfectly. After finishing the Diploma, I enrolled in the CMA- Sauder DAP Bridge program to complete the required courses in order to write the National Entrance Exam. After an intense, six-week program I successfully passed the National Entrance Exam in October 2007.
The Sauder School of Business and CMA BC made the process as direct as possible, which was perfect for a working, university graduate with little time to spare. As a candidate in the CMA Strategic Leadership Program (SLP) I find that the program equips me with the broad range of skills and knowledge required in my current position as an Accounting Manager at one of Vancouver's largest full service property management companies. I also look forward to the CMA designation opening up numerous career possibilities for me in the future.

I graduated with a BA in economics from UBC. After I decided to pursue the CA designation, I looked into a few programs that would meet my needs. I chose UBC DAP because it provided the flexibility of transferring credits to CA, CGA and CMA programs. It is an intensive and fast paced program that allowed me to finish my courses within one year. I was also attracted by the excellent quality of the program. I received the same education and training as UBC BCom accounting students. Further, the program provided career services such as access to the Business Career Centre and career events to students.

I entered the UBC Diploma of Accounting Program in May 2002. I was looking to obtain a Canadian professional accounting designation, and the UBC Diploma of Accounting Program (DAP) was a perfect fit for me. DAP, followed by my enrollment in the CGA program, enabled me to join the North Vancouver School District as Senior Accounts Clerk then be promoted to Accounting Manager. I have also been selected to represent BCSDSTA as a member of the BC Ministry of Education Accounting Advisory Committee. I strongly recommend the UBC Diploma of Accounting Program. This is a great program to help secure a professional accounting designation.

Coming from a non-commerce background, I was looking for a challenging, well-respected program that could provide me with a solid foundation in accounting. The academic rigor of the UBC Diploma in Accounting has given me the technical skills necessary to succeed both at work and in my studies to become a Certified Management Accountant. My current position requires me to have an in-depth knowledge of financial analysis in evaluating the effectiveness of our marketing strategies. The combination of a Diploma in Accounting and the CMA program has given me the tools necessary to be an effective contributor to my organization.

I selected the DAP program because of its excellent professional curriculum and the fact that it actively facilitates the recruitment process between students and employers. I was able to enhance the DAP experience by participating in the DAP student club where I was given the opportunity to share experiences, insights and knowledge with other students. My decision to enroll in DAP and to participate in the DAP student club were rewarded by the fact it has led me to my present career with a Big Four firm.
