Professional Associations

DAP's 11 required courses are pre-requisites for all of the Canadian accounting designation programs and are directly transferable to each. Students can also tailor their program to include any additional elective courses required for a particular designation.

Students may have already completed coursework, which the accounting designations would deem equivalent to their required electives, either at UBC or other post-secondary institutions. In this case, the accounting associations should be contacted directly to determine what, if any, elective courses should be completed, beyond the 11 required DAP courses.

Please select the applicable designation tab below for more information on additional requirements for each program. Students interested in the American CPA designation should visit the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants website.

National and provincial merger discussions continue between CA, CGA & CMA to create one Canadian Accounting Designation: CPA, Chartered Professional Accountant. Accounting designations are regulated provincially and at the present time, the mergers vary across Canada. In British Columbia (BC), CA & CMA have united to create CPABC. The new CPA program will be offered in BC starting in September 2013.

The Diploma in Accounting Program (DAP) at UBC is officially recognized by the CPA program and courses taken through DAP will be transferable to meet the pre-requisites required for entry into the CPA Professional Education Program. Transfer guides showing additional elective requirements for CPA will be available late spring 2013.
