Program Overview

The AMP begins in February 2018 and takes 5 months to complete, finishing in June 2018. Classes are delivered in 7 day long, classroom based sessions, occurring approximately every 4 weeks. A typical schedule is 8:00 am to 5:00 pm daily. There may be some mandatory evening events, including tutoring/ group work sessions, special presentations from various organizations and companies, and dinners.

Assignments, homework, and pre-reading occur between the modules. The AMP is a short duration program and is cohort based. It is expected that students will attend all classes and evening sessions. Participation is required along with successful completion of all coursework to obtain the certificate.

You will develop an understanding of four main areas of a business: customers, the business offering, the business infrastructure and its financial viability. The program will adopt a business modelling process that will result in a blueprint for a strategy that will be developed into a viable and realistic business plan. The AMP integrates Aboriginal values with the business skills required for success in managing existing businesses or in developing new and successful ones.

Capstone

At the culmination of the program, the Capstone presentation brings together the curriculum, students, professors and industry professionals to test the integrated education with real-life business challenges. The final week of the program includes a graduation celebration at the UBC First Nations Longhouse.
