- I already advise families. How will I benefit from this program?
-
First, we understand you are coming to the program with expertise in your own field. Our program will help you continue to deliver the best advice possible to your clients, while bringing you up to speed on the latest research and trends in the field of family enterprise advising.
Second, you will make vital connections with advisors from other disciplines and gain a detailed understanding of how they work with family enterprise. Our multi-disciplinary approach will have you actively integrating your own discipline with those of other professionals in order to provide collaborative and complementary advice to your business family clients.
- How will this program help me in my professional practice?
-
By better incorporating family concerns and the counsel of other professionals, your advice will be more comprehensive, strategic and effective. In addition, you will connect with advisors from other disciplines to create an important referral base and professional resource for your practice.
After graduation, you are well on your way to earning your Family Enterprise Advising (FEA) designation—a way for you to publicly display your competencies in this growing field and differentiate yourself from the competition. You will gain first movers’ advantage and be seen as a leader in a field that is large and growing in prominence.
- How much does the program cost?
-
The program costs $13,960 with the one-time payment option. For information about our payment plan options, please read our registration page. All fees are subject to applicable taxes.
- Will I receive professional development credits from my professional or industry association?
-
Our courses are accredited by the following organizations for the professional development credits: Law Society of B.C., Institute for Advanced Financial Education (Advocis), Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners Canada (STEP), Certified Management Accountants B.C., and Institute of Chartered Accountants of B.C. (ICIBC)
We are continuously working with other industry associations to get our courses officially recognized for professional development credits, though members of other industry associations can usually obtain credits for the program by asking their industry association. We will be glad to provide you with the relevant documents pertaining to our course at no extra cost.
- I have taken a facilitation and/or strategic planning course before. Can I receive advanced credit for these required courses in the Family Enterprise Advisor Program?
-
Unfortunately, we cannot waive the requirements for any of our courses. Our courses are very specific to family enterprise education, and we do not believe that courses offered by other associations address the field in as depth a manner. Other graduates of the Family Enterprise Advising Program have benefited immensely from our courses, and believe there is very little overlap with courses offered by other associations.
- For Knowledge Integration & Application, how often do I have to meet with my study group?
-
Groups are required to meet for a minimum of six (6) hours in total from May to December. In general, many of the groups meet for a longer duration. Participants who are unable to physically attend a group meeting can utilize technologies such as Skype or conference calling to coordinate with their team.
- When I complete the program, will I have my FEA designation?
-
No. However, you are well on your way. Other requirements to achieve the Family Enterprise Advising (FEA) accreditation include: Another professional designation or equivalent, Pass the Written and Oral components of the designation exam offered by IFEA, 5+ years of full-time experience (minimum of 30%, or equivalent, working with families) and 7 hours of annual Continuing Education credits.
