Scholarships, Awards and Bursaries

Scholarships, awards, prizes and bursaries are available to students and are based on academic achievement and in many cases, some combination of financial need and/or achievement in other areas such as leadership and community service. They include Entrance Scholarships for new students and BCom Student Awards for current students. Please browse the list of available scholarships below.

Loans and Grants

Student loans are government-funded repayable financial assistance. This funding is intended to help students finance their post-secondary education. Please refer to the Awards & Money Management section of the UBC website.

Research Stipend

A research stipend of $5,000 CAN is paid to students in the Commerce Scholars Program for research work typically completed by the student during the summer between Years 3 and 4 of the program.

Tuition, Fees and Living Costs

Tuition costs are calculated on a per-credit basis and differ for international and non-international students. Please refer to the Tuition, Scholarships & Support section of the UBC website.

Additionally, the following entrance scholarships recognize and reward the achievements of incoming Sauder School of Business students.

1693 Sauder School of Business Dean's Entrance Scholarship
Scholarships valued at up to $20,000 each are available to outstanding students with Canadian or Permanent Resident status entering the first year of the Bachelor of Commerce program at the Sauder School of Business. The awards are based primarily on the students' scholarly achievement. Subject to continued scholarship standing, the scholarships will be renewed for a further three years of study or until the first undergraduate degree is obtained (whichever is the shorter period).

1697 Sauder School of Business Shad Valley Scholarship
Scholarships valued at up to $10,000 each are available to students with Canadian or Permanent Resident status entering the first year of the Bachelor of Commerce program at the Sauder School of Business. To be considered, candidates must have completed the Shad Valley Enrichment Program. The awards are based primarily on the students' scholarly achievement. Subject to continued scholarship standing, the scholarships will be renewed for a further three years of study or until the first undergraduate degree is obtained (whichever is the shorter period).

1692 Sauder School of Business Entrance Scholarship
Scholarships valued at up to $10,000 each are available to outstanding students with Canadian or Permanent Resident status entering the first year of the Bachelor of Commerce program at the Sauder School of Business. The awards are based primarily on the students' scholarly achievement. Subject to continued scholarship standing, the scholarships will be renewed for a further three years of study or until the first undergraduate degree is obtained (whichever is the shorter period).

1689 Bachelor of Commerce Entrance Scholarship
Scholarships valued at up to $7,000 each are available to outstanding students with Canadian or Permanent Resident status entering the first year of the Bachelor of Commerce program at the Sauder School of Business. The awards are based primarily on the students' scholarly achievement.

1647 Lloyd Carr-Harris Foundation Scholarship
A scholarship equal to current tuition (credit cost at Canadian resident rates, not including student-levied extra fees) is offered by the Lloyd Carr-Harris Foundation to a student entering the first year of the Bachelor of Commerce program. Subject to scholarship winners achieving annual standing on the Dean's Honour Roll, the award is renewable for a further three years of study or until a Bachelor of Commerce degree is obtained, whichever is the shorter period.

1654 Sheldon Trainor-De Girolomo Scholarship in Commerce
Two scholarships of $2,700 each have been endowed by Sheldon Trainor-De Girolomo for undergraduate students entering the first year of the Bachelor of Commerce program. Preference is given to students who graduated from a B.C. secondary school located outside the Greater Vancouver Regional District or the Capital Region District.

1687 HSBC Bank Canada Sauder School of Business Entrance Award
HSBC Bank Canada offers a $1,200 award has been endowed through donations by employees who are Sauder Alumni. The award is available for an undergraduate student entering first year of the Bachelor of Commerce Program. The award is based on a combination of financial need and community service. The award is made on the recommendation of the Application Review Committee Sauder School of Business.
