UBC Sauder students have a history of success at the Champions Trophy Case Competition held annually at the University of Auckland, and this year’s team didn’t disappoint with yet another top three finish earlier this month.

Bachelor of Commerce candidates Aaron Cho, Grace Jin, Jason Mah and Sam Wong earned second place after competing against a roster of 12 teams from around the world through four cases and five rounds of competition. Although UBC Sauder beat out competition stalwarts such as Queen’s, McGill, the National University of Singapore, and Copenhagen Business School, the team was edged out by the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania in the final round.

“I’m thrilled with our team’s presentations and overall performance – it was a very talented pool of competitors, so finishing just a hair behind the Wharton team is a great accomplishment,” said UBC Sauder professor Kin Lo, who coached the team.

With the team’s success this year, UBC Sauder further extends its overall lead since the competition’s inception 11 years ago. The school has earned three first place, two second place and one fourth place finish, well ahead of the next best performer, University of Florida, which has two first-place prizes.
