Debra Hewson, president and chief executive of Odlum Brown and member of UBC Sauder's Faculty Advisory Board, is recognized as one of BC's most outstanding business people with the Business in Vancouver 2016 BC CEO Award, mid-market company category.
Presented by Business in Vancouver and MacKay CEO Forum, the BC CEO Awards span five sectors of business and are awarded for outstanding professional accomplishments and contributions to the community.
A strong supporter of Odlum Brown's sponsorship and charitable giving programs, Hewson is an industry director for the Canadian Investor Protection Fund and sits on the boards of St. Paul’s Hospital Foundation and the Alzheimer Society of British Columbia. She has been a recipient of the the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal and the British Columbia Community Achievement Award. She was inducted into the Women’s Executive Network’s Canada’s Most Powerful Women Top 100: Hall of Fame in 2012, after being recognized as one of the Top 100 for three consecutive years. Hewson was also recognized as one of British Columbia’s 100 Women of Influence by the Vancouver Sun.
Hewson has been with Odlum Brown for 25 years. She became president and CEO in 2007 and at its helm she's earned a reputation as a leader in the business community. Under her leadership, Odlum Brown was recently named one of Canada's Best Managed Companies for the 17th year straight, a competitive leading business awards program that recognizes Canadian-owned and operated businesses who excel in leadership, innovation and best business practices.
Hewson joined UBC Sauder's Faculty Advisory Board in 2014, a group of 33 high-level executives. Some of Canada's top business minds sit on the advisory board and members provide invaluable expertise to the school by advising the dean, management and faculty on strategies and programs.
The 2016 BC CEO award winners will be profiled by Business in Vancouver on October 11 and honoured by a gala on November 1.
