UBC team wins 7th Annual NAIOP Pacific Northwest Real Estate Challenge

A team of 12 UBC students have brought home the trophy from the 7th Annual NAIOP Pacific Northwest Real Estate Challenge in Seattle in March, culminating a three-month competition process.  The team consists of students from the Sauder School of Business and the School of Community and Regional Planning (SCARP): Mike Blomkamp, Matt Cunning, Alex Deng, Daniella Fergusson, Brandon Markiw, Anjali Varghese, Robin Johansson, Myles Millard, Stacy Passmore, Michelle Seto, Azim Wazeer ,and Garth White.  The team was advised by Prof. Tsur Somerville and Mark Monroe from the UBC Centre for Urban Economics and Real Estate.

The annual event brings together student teams from Pacific Northwest universities who spend three months creating a development proposal and strategic plan for a multi-faceted and challenging actual site.  This year the challenge involved two owned and two optioned parcels in the West Seattle neighborhood known as the “Triangle Area.”

Students received guidance and advice from a large group of industry mentors, members of NAIOP, the sponsoring organization.  Special thanks to Vancouver real estate professionals Chris Kay, Michael Mortenson, Doug Nordan, Hugo Vasquez, and members of Concert, Grosvenor, and ParkLane who reviewed the students' proposal.
