Sauder alumnus presents at the Second International Conference on Violence in the Health Sector

Doug McLaren, EMBA 2009, a graduate of the Sauder Executive MBA in Health Care Program, has been selected to give a presentation at the Second International Conference on Violence in the Health Sector, which will take place in October 2010 in Amsterdam. McLaren’s submission to the conference program is based on his major industry project, titled Lateral Aggression among Nurses in British Columbia, which was undertaken during the summer and fall of 2009.  His study involved a province-wide survey of nurses in BC, and a series of focus groups.  The data indicate that aggression in the workplace is widespread, and the perpetrators are often nurses themselves.

“This project is an excellent example of the work done by Sauder EMBA students,” said McLaren’s project supervisor, Prof. Brian Bemmels.  “It provides the industry with solid evidence that can inform management decision-making.  We are delighted that he is presenting it to an international audience.”
