10th Anniversary Gala Event Celebrates IMBA Program and Official Launch of UBC Sauder Business Club of Greater China


On June 7, to a crowded Ballroom, Sauder International MBA (IMBA) alumni, students, faculty, and friends came together at the Regal International East Asia Hotel in Shanghai to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the founding of the IMBA program and the official launch of the UBC Sauder Business Club of Greater China.

The IMBA program, a partnership between the Sauder School of Business and the Antai School of Management at Shanghai Jiao Tong University, offers business professionals the opportunity to earn a UBCIMBA degree in Shanghai. The UBC IMBA is one of the few MBA programs in Shanghai that brings world-class business professors from Canada to its students for every course, and is entirely taught by AACSB and EQUIS-accredited Sauder School of Business faculty.

The evening’s program included addresses from Dean Daniel Muzyka; Nadir Patel, Canadian Consul General in Shanghai; Professor He Zhiyi, Associate Dean, Antai College of Economics and Management, Shanghai Jiao Tong University; Mr. Dicky Yip, Executive Vice President, Bank of Communications, General Manager Hong Kong and Shanghai Banking Corp. Ltd.; and Mr. Yong Hong, President of IMBA Class Four. Brian Bemmels, Senior Associate Dean Academic Programs recognized Alcatel-Lucent as the program’s top employer.

“China (including Hong Kong) is home to the largest contingent of Sauder alumni outside of Canada,” says Grace Wong, Senior Advisor International, UBC Office of Provost and Sauder Assistant Dean and emcee for the evening. “The energy in the room was indicative of the pride and sense of connection alumni here feel with both UBC and Sauder. We are excited to see the UBC Sauder Business Club of Greater China take form and the benefits it will bring to alumni in the region.”
