Since 1996, Professor Smoklin has been a member of the Philosophy Department at Kwantlen Polytechnic University. He also teaches regularly in the Philosophy Department at the University of British Columbia. Doran enjoys working with students and he has received several awards in recognition of teaching excellence. His research interests are in moral and political philosophy, with article publications on the nature of trust, the nature of our obligations to future generations, and in medical ehtics. His current research focuses on the topics of forgiveness and trust.
