Career Profile

Graduating with a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of British Columbia in 1963, Mr. Riedl went on to complete an MBA from York University in 1969. He also received the Chartered Financial Analyst Designation in 1971. Previous employers of Mr. Riedl include Alfred Bunting & Co (renamed to UBS Bunting Warburg Inc.) in various positions including President and Chairman for 15 years starting in 1968. In 1983, he founded Canadian Oil Securities Inc., which offered independent research and advice on Canadian oil and gas stocks. In 1991, Mr. Riedl became President & CEO of Fairvest Securities Corporation, an institutional stock brokerage firm specializing in matters of corporate governance and shareholder rights. Mr. Riedl decided to retire in early 2000, and as Fairvest's major shareholder, he negotiated the sale of the firm to VERSUS Technologies Inc., which subsequently merged the brokerage operation into E*Trade Institutional (Canada) Inc. and sold the proxy advisory service to Institutional Shareholder Services of Rockville, Maryland.

Mr. Riedl has served as a director on numerous corporate entities, both public and private; also as a member of various securities industry committees. In the not-for-profit sector, Mr. Riedl served on the Board of Yonge Street Mission from 1982 to 2003 and as Chair of the Board from 1986 to 2002. Currently, Mr. Riedl is a director of Alderwoods Group Inc. and a member of the Five-Year Ontario Securities Review Advisory Committee.
