Career Profile

Tom Longworth has almost 40 years of Executive and Board level experience in a range of industries (consumer and industrial products, distribution and 3rd party logistics, building materials and Information Technology) and geographic regions including North America, Asia, Australia and Europe. Tom has held various senior positions including Managing Director of JOS Synergy Limited in Hong Kong, member of the Jardine Matheson Group, Vice President of Telus Enterprise Solutions Inc., Vice President of ISMBC (IBM & Telus as shareholders), Senior Vice President of Canfor Corporation and President & Chief Executive Officer of CanWel Distribution Limited. Mr. Longworth previously held senior executive management positions in the food industry with RJR, Aylmer/DelMonte and RJR-Nabisco including Executive Vice President, Nabisco Brands Ltd during the period covered in the book Barbarians at the Gate. After his arrival in Canada in 1972, Tom worked with the retailer Eatons as an industrial engineer and then as a management consultant with Stevenson & Kellogg Ltd which later merged with KPMG. Mr. Longworth received a B.A. (Economics and Mathematics), BAI (Bachelor of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering) and M.Sc. in Manufacturing and Business from the University of Dublin, Trinity College. He is a registered P.Eng. With Professional Engineers Ontario

Mr. Longworth is a board director of Vancouver Fraser Port Authority (Port Metro Vancouver) and Health Shared Services BC (HSSBC). Tom served on numerous boards including: Versacold (TSE) from 1997 to 2007, Jardine JOS Synergy Ltd (Hong Kong), Howe Sound Pulp and Paper (JV of Canfor (TSE) & Oji Corporation of Japan (Nikkei)), Day4 Energy (TSE), CanWel Distribution Ltd. and Aylmer Foods Warehousing.

Board committee experience includes Audit, Governance, Corporate Social Responsibility & HR. On completion of his assignment in Hong Kong, Tom spent three months in Queensland Australia learning to fly. Returning to Canada in 2006, he started Longworth Advisory Services Ltd., an independent business advisor working with Board and Senior Executive Management. Clients include: Intrawest, Finning International, Teck Resources, Versacold, Teekay Shipping, Transpacific Industries (Australia), Kelowna Flightcraft, Oak Hill Capital, Cerberus Capital, St. George’s school, StarDyne Technologies, JD Irving, Quilts Etc, and high net worth individuals.

Recent projects and International experience:

 Risk assessment & management on major projects and ventures. Operational reviews and assessments. Executive steering committee member on major IT projects.

 Due diligence on acquisitions in North America and Australia. Post acquisition integration.

 Evaluation of strategic alternatives in a variety of businesses.

 Evaluation and development of International business initiatives. Projects have involved travel and negotiations in Australia, Hong Kong, Macao, China (Shanghai, Beijing, Chengdu, Xiamen and Yuyao), Taiwan, Philippines, Japan, Korea, Germany, UK, Sweden, Ireland, South Africa and Israel.
