In December 2011, Wayne Deans, a leading Vancouver finance professional, made a $2.2 million gift to establish the Wayne Deans Investment Analysis Centre at the Sauder School of Business. When asked about his inspiration for establishing the centre, Deans said he wanted to give students a tool that would benefit them in their studies and in their careers after graduation.
The gift highlights Deans’s longstanding commitment to business education. He has been actively involved with the UBC BCom for the past 25 years and played a critical role in the formation of the Portfolio Management Foundation program, which gives students the opportunity to manage a portfolio and invest in the capital markets.
“This is an important tool for students to develop the skills necessary to enter the investment world. We are providing the first steps, connecting students with the information they require to quickly move forward in their work and put theory into practice."

The centre is equipped with a full range of high tech financial software used by investment banking professionals to give students access to global capital markets in real time. Resources include:
- Capital IQ
- SDC Platinum
- Bureau van Dijk
To support students, regular workshops are available on the Bloomberg and Capital IQ terminals and students also have access to private peer to peer coaching during regular office hours in the centre.
The centre is managed by Academic Director and Associate Professor, Murray Carlson, and by the Canaccord Learning Commons.
